CEO Angella Luyk has many passions in life. One of her biggest is Junior Achievement. She is often heard as saying, "I received my first taste of business through Junior Achievement, I ran a small company in high school, and now I am hooked. This program gave me a start, showed me that I could be successful. More people should be a part of this; you help to shape young students. I owe a lot of what I have to these people. It is my turn to give back to the next generation of business leaders."

Junior Achievement of Rochester, New York Area, Inc. was founded in 1968 and this year celebrates 40 years of bringing economic, business, financial literacy and free enterprise education to area students. We support Chemung, Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne and Yates Counties. Our parent organization, Junior Achievement Worldwide was founded in 1919 and currently serves nearly 8.4 million students globally. It is the world's largest organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy.

JA programs are delivered in schools in grades K-12 and also in after-school settings. It is fundamentally a volunteer organization where dedicated individuals give their time in the classroom to educate and inspire young people. These volunteers are supported by JA with professionally developed curricula and training. Teacher/partners invite JA into their classrooms and are a vital component of program delivery. JA offers educational programs that focus on seven key content areas; business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy and career development.

During the 2007-2008 school year more than 390 men and women volunteered their time to 540 classrooms in area schools. They reached almost 11,000 students with JA programming. These passionate volunteers, educators and local leaders are individuals who care enough to make a difference in a child's life through enrichment with the JA experience. For many children experiencing Junior Achievement is seeing an activity and visualizing a future where their dreams can become a reality.
